Summer Solstice

Sharhonda and Daud were a great couple I met at the Wedding Showcase. Sharhonda lived in North Carolina and Daud in Atlanta, GA. The long distance romance would soon become a marriage and Sharhonda would relocate to Georgia.

They were both very involved in the design. They wanted their photo on their invitation and also wanted to work in roses and ivy. They were excited that they were getting married on the longest day of the year, June 21st, Summer Solstice. We met several times and the invitation evolved. I decided to use the rose theme throughout the artwork all the way through to the thank you card art (seen above). They had a good photo to work from, and only wanted a few things modified. They decided on three panels. One with their portrait on the cover, one for the actual invitation (words) and one for...? Well, as often happens, I had an idea hit me. I created a sun dial with roses to represent the Summer Solstice element of the ceremony! They were very happy.

The cover artwork and the sun dial.

They selected a burgundy ink and a golden parchtone paper. Sharhonda debated between gold and ivory. Both would have looked good!
